Meetings

We meet starting at 10:30 a.m. on the following Saturdays at the Northwood Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library
4420 Loch Raven Boulevard, Baltimore, MD 21218.

We meet the first Saturday of most months.

January 5 = Guest Speaker Roland Mills to present “How to Prepare for a Presentation”

Feb 2 = BAAHGS’ 3rd Genealogy Expo, in place of our meeting, 12 noon to 4 pm; Elinor Thompson will be speaking at Maryland State Archives, 350 Rowe Blvd, Annapolis, MD on “African American Church Records of Anne Arundel County” on Feb 23, 10 am to 12 noon (free but call for reservations, 410-260-6411)

March 2 = Guest Speaker Robyn Smith to present “Fruits of the Earth: Using Land Records Effectively”; SANDI BREWSTER-WALKER WILL SPEAK ON AFRICAN AMERICAN GENEALOGY AT THE MARYLAND STATE ARCHIVES (350 ROWE BLVD, ANNAPOLIS, MD) ON MARCH 30, 10 AM TO 12 NOON (FREE BUT CALL FOR RESERVATIONS, 410-260-6411)

April 6 = Guest Speaker Al Hunter, Jr. will speak about writing his book, Thou Shalt Not Steal: The Baseball Life & Times of a Rifle-Armed Negro League Catcher, Bill “Ready” Cash; 7th Annual Symposium on African American History in the Mid-Atlantic (“African American Women of the Antebellum Era”) at Goucher College on Apr 10, 8 am to 1 pm; Annual research trip to the Library of Virginia (LVA) in Richmond on April 11-13; National Archives in Washington, DC has their free 9th Annual Genealogy Fair on April 17-18

May 11 = Guest Speaker Patricia Washington, author of Little Children Blow Your Trumpets: The Family History of Alice Frazier Bouldin, 1812-1965 will present “Writing A Family History” at the Reginald Lewis Museum, 830 E. Pratt Street; free all-day genealogy workshops at the Washington, DC Family History Center in Kensington, MD, 10000 Stoneybrook Dr., on May 4

June 1 = 5th Annual BAAHGS picnic at the Benjamin Banneker Park, 300 Oella Ave, Catonsville, MD; AAHGS – Prince George’s County Chapter has their 8th Annual Juneteeth Seminar at the Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro, MD on June 15

July 6 = Guest Speaker Dr. Agnes Kane Callum will present “Sotterly Plantation”; the Midwest African American Genealogy Institute in St. Louis, MO on July 8-11

August 3 = Guest Speaker Natonne Elaine Kemp, co-host on Blog Talk Radio’s “Research at the National Archives and Beyond”, will present “Resources for Tracing Your South Carolinian Roots”

September  7 = Guest Speaker Carol Petranek, Co-Director of the Washington, DC Family History Center in Kensington, MD will present “Beyond the Search in FamilySearch”; possible day trip to The African American Museum in Philadelphia, 701 Arch St. on Sept ??; the 16th Annual Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival at the Towson Courthouse on Sept 21.

October 5 = BAAHGS members present some of their findings; AAHGS ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN NASHVILLE, TN ON OCT 10-13; the 15th annual free all-day Baltimore Family History Workshop, 120 Stemmers Run Road in Essex, MD on Oct 12

November  2 = Guest Speaker Karen Sutton to present “Free Blacks in the Revolutionary War”
